American pianist Katie Mahan shines in her latest album, “Clair de lune”, featuring piano works by Claude Debussy. Known for her outstanding interpretations of the music of Gershwin and Bernstein, Ms. Mahan’s new Debussy album is her 10th album overall and follows her recording of the Complete Solo Piano Works of Leonard Bernstein, released last year by Deutsche Grammophon. For this latest album, Ms. Mahan returns to her childhood love of French music, which she studied as a teenager with celebrated French pianist Pascal Rogé. “Debussy’s music has always had a special place in my heart, and on this album, I wanted to show the impressions of Debussy’s whole life, from the fairytale charm of his early works to the sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek humor of his late works.” The album also features a music video of the title track that is based upon the eponymous poem of Paul Verlaine. Set in Venice, it illuminates Debussy’s fascination for the world of the commedia dell’arte and takes the listener on a true journey into Debussy’s magical world.
