Fueled by an unwavering work ethic, developed as a kid growing up on a small rural farm in the North West, Blair Mathews always been involved in music. His earliest memories are the sounds of his mom’s Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley records playing constantly in the house. After months of pleading, and much to his mother’s dismay, his first musical instrument was a Ludwig drum set. Countless hours of banging away, matching the beat patterns of Led Zeppelin and other rock and roll artists, Blair started the natural journey of involvement in garage rock bands. This continued throughout high school, playing whenever and wherever he could, The school Jazz band, community centers – anywhere he could play. Blair started playing in clubs before he was of age to even be in the club and toured for several years playing with Top 40
bands.
At the age of 24 he signed a Writing Development Deal on the EMI Music label. His manager Roy Howard from England, matched him with another writer and so Blair moved to the East Coast to write songs and work towards an album release. After several years of promises without a Record Release, Blair moved back to the West and settled in Arizona. Working in the Pop and Rock genres as well as country music, he returned to focus solely on Country Music in 2011.
Blair continues to hone his writing craft. “I’m not interested in writing the same songs over and over again, or having a sound that is predictable by the 3rd song,” explains Mathews. “I work very hard at mixing different music styles, beats and rhythms to create totally different feels for each tune. My experience in Rock and pop has given me a much wider vision for developing country songs.”
In 2012 he started working with Grammy Award Winning Engineer, Chad Carlson (first 3 Taylor Swift Albums including “RED”). Chad and Blair have continued to work together, recording more that 70 songs at Sound Emporium in Nashville.
Blair recorded several cuts with Grammy Award Winning Producer, Luke Wooten in 2015 at Station West (Producer for Dierks Bentley and Brad Paisley). Mathews has co-written with several leading writers – like LA based pop artist and actor Daniel Capellaro, Australian Country artist Jared Porter and Nashville writer Keith Dozier.
